I found a few small ceramic doorknobs from some old RF plasma generator, and my friends have been bugging me to make a TC for a while now. So heres the spec. pri: 7.5 turn 12ga hookup. hot glued together to hold the shape
sec: 30sth ga ~1k turn on paper tube with 5 layers of scoth tape on top tank caps: 4 X 5kv 100pf, 3 X 5kv 1000pf(parallel) and I am using a ZVS flyback circuit to power it, in case you wonder. without any tuning, its giving me about 10cm arcs.
But the door knobs are suffering from surface tracking, and they heat up quite a lot.
Now my roommate hates me because I killed the network while he was in the middle of a net meeting.

I take great satisfaction in the fact that my coil is almost entirely built from my junk box and some old microwave ovens.
The toroid is 3†(3.75†OD) plastic drain tile covered with aluminum foil and held in place by stove burner drip trays.
The spark gap is old plumbing parts and the blower from a MO.
The tank capacitor is sixteen wine bottles in two old five-gallon plastic buckets using salt from the water softener (emptying all those wine bottles was a challenge).
The PVC for the secondary was left over from a hydroponics garden and the wire was salvaged from the degaussing coils from several old color TVs.
The low voltage wire was left over from a high-powered car stereo, an invisible pet fence, and some house wiring.
The only parts that were purchased were some wiring connectors and a box to put the switch and circuit breaker in. All total I spent less than $20 on the whole setup.
