Hi guys

This was my big project for this year, restoring a Crown SXA tube stereo amp. It was originally made some time in the late 50s, early 60s. When I got it, it was just the chassis and transformers. I put all new guts in, and a new front panel that would expose the tubes so it looked better in the living room smile

The original EL37 output tubes are now very rare and expensive, so I converted it to EL34s. I also fitted transformer balanced inputs, an Alps volume control, and changed the pilot lamp to purple smile

I've only just finished it, and haven't done any detailed measurements of performance. I just checked that it put out the rated 2x30W RMS, and didn't catch fire or go unstable. I may do a listening test against a solid-state amp, if I can be bothered arranging the switching for a proper ABX test. But for the time being I'm just enjoying the sound. The bass doesn't seem to hit quite as hard as my old 2x 150W MOSFET amp, but that's understandable. And I think I can hear a little tube distortion in the midrange and high end, but that tubey goodness is the whole point of the exercise!

Any comments much appreciated. Maybe HFSSTC-freak will post some pics of the amp before he sold it to me...
