Thanks for that, i tried various things & managed to get a 4" nail to hot to touch only. Long way off getting a 40mm dia by 75mm long piece of steel glowing red?
The power draw from the MAINS supply is already 360W getting the nail hot, maybe everybody gives the Watts from there power supply figures instead of from the mains supply where it should be read?
Not sure what else to try with this circuit & it seems very inefficient at this stage.
What is the "Mains" power draw for your induction heater to get a piece of steel red as the dimensions above, total power draw & not from the power supply.

Mine needed well over 1kW (I measured 7A RMS @ 240V line voltage) to melt a steel bolt. It was a 1/4" bolt about 1.5" long.
A big steel rod like what you described will need a good deal more power, but then, you're only heating it red and not melting it, so maybe 1kW would do.
