I couldn't set the PFC to higher than 215VDC out because it would shock me when I hold it.

Here's a youtube video too:

Here's an early picture of the inside:

Now it has a Faraday cage around power electronics module because the PFC boost regulator is digitally controlled

If you aren't grounding the coil through an external ground wire, but rather just through the grip you are passing considerably amounts of RF through yourself and that is generally bad. If you are grounding it then all is probably well :)

That is a sweet toy none the less amazed

ground comes from earth - in the line cord. It's painfully obvious when I find an outlet where the ground pin is not hooked up...

Specs:

PIC18F2658 based digital PFC in rCCM mode, also controls LEDs, sound effect, and graphics LCD.
Power is settable from PFC reference and burst length - I went from 4046 PLL to all Steve Ward's design because it looked bullet-proof. That's about 110 watts RMS as measured with a Yokogawa PZ4000, pf of 0.98
It shoots 16" or so to earth, and makes a nice hot plume in free air... Any higher voltage on the PFC output and it will arc back to me.

Thanks guys :)

Hot! Looks durable and I admire the primary insulation. You might be able to get longer sparks without getting 'bitten' if you use a topload other than toroidal -- it encourages discharges out the sides.
