Hey everyone,

Noob question I know but I'd like an answer anyhow..
How would I wire up this NST?
I see the two HV poles and the Ground, but not sure what I'd attach to the other screws.. :/

And I'd also like to know if this would be ok to use as a temporary variac measure. It's an old speed controller for electrical and various other bits and bobs.

Well , I'm certainly not prepared to guess at this one cry , and I'm sure most people here will be reluctant to for the obvious safety reasons.
Actually I can make a good guess, but I'd hate to guess and contribute to your demise rolleyes.
You may get lucky and someone here may know that actual transformer and not have to guess cheesey.
I'm sure you too can make an educated guess looking at the markings, but whatever you try, try it carefully.

As for the speed controller, I imagine it is a simple triac chopper, and the NST may not like the sharp edged waveforms these generate, but unfortunately , again, I'm not sure...

In fact now I'm not sure why I wrote this, I wasn't very helpfull.

But hey, at least it will bring the post back up, and hopefully someone who can be more helpfull will notice it cheesey
Anyone....

I second the thing about the speed controller. The waveform the nst likes is sinewave Link2 and what that speed controller you have puts out is either sawtooth Link2 (top one) or triangle Link2 (top). The core of the transformer is made for the sinewave, if you use a different sort of wave, i am not too sure, but it could cause overvoltage or core heating.

I think that if it were anything besides a sign wave, the sharp changes in voltage would cause ringing and would likely destroy the speed controller or the NST...
