This is a quickly thrown together axial Zeta Pinch plasma device. Back in in the 1950's this was throughly investigated as a fusion source under Project Sherwood. The shown model is NOT capable of any fusion and never will be. However, it is quite effective at demonstrating the "pinch effect" on cylindrical plasma. It is powered by a charged 7kV 11.25 uF capacitor which is spark gap triggered into the series wired tube and coil.

Below is a photo of the vacuum tube and attached coil during peak discharge. The coil is currently in the "Magnetic Mirror" configuration.

I have also attached a link to my youtube video of the project along with another of a related wikipedia article on the Zeta Pinch.

This would make an excellent science fair project for anyone interested.

Pretty darn sweet! Looks almost like laser emission, I hope you're wearing eye protection for possible intense radiation.

Also IS THAT YOUR GARAGE?! Looks like you got a sweet lab there that you need to show off.. like... PRONTO! Sweet 1402 vac pump... liquid cooled monster electromagnet, piggie, mills... nice!

Wow, very nice. I recently just got interested in Z Pinches. What a coincidence. I'll put it on my to do list some time.

Looks very nice. Splendid indeed, nice lab.

Looks good, I would watch the video but my "unlimited" internet seems to have gone to dialup speeds.... Any chance of more information about it?
