I used today my last 2 IGBTs for a new halfbridge in a drsstc so I tryed to think how to use the full voltage from the mains with minimum IGBT cost. The first solution was evident:
Practically, the cap divider consists by two Cp caps, each of them resonant with the primary coil. The primary tank will see the full input voltage because the Lp and each Cp cancels both at each halfcycle. The disadvantage is the doubled price of the cap. The connections have to be very solid because the high currents.
I used the second variant:
The mains voltage is doubled, and because Cp and Lp cancels out, the primary coil will see the full U in voltage, from each C bus cap. The IGBT will see only the U in voltage, not the doubled value. At this moment I am using this way and the results are ok.
...so I think it is possible to decrease the IGBT cost in drsstc use.

[attention drunk post ahead] Well, it's not any new nor a good idea. The first schematic features just a doubled MMC, you can just rig an mmc between the IGBT midpoint and one of the input terminals by the way as it will work as a DC blocking capacitor as well so the very first bang will be enough to charge it to a half of the supply voltage. The second shematic is not of anything new as well - you just run a generic halfbridge from a doubler. That makes you look for volty switches as for the 310vdc mains feed you need 620v ones, and most of the to-247 ones are rated 600v only. So, to sum it up: you can get two of higher voltage switches or just four of lower-rated ones for a bridge with a doubled MMC which will be of the same efficiency. Also, if you can get two switches, why not just get four of them? In that case if your halfbridge can hold the doubled MMC, the fullbridge surely will do that too without a doubler. With the doubler in a bridge, you'll be able to get lower strobe length for the same current to build up on your primary, so the switches will heat up LESS! As a result, still a full H-bridge is the best decision.
