Ubuntu 5.10, on a Dell Inspiron 4150. The printer in question is an Abaton LaserScript LX-- it is designed to emulate an HP LaserJet Series II, and there is a driver for that printer. Only trouble is, I cannot make the driver work properly. It prints, for certs, but sloooowly. A nearly 2-minute pause between each page, slowly. In Windows XP, pages printed one after the other, with little downtime. What seems to be happening is that the parallel port is sending instruction packets at too low a frequency--the printer's display will flash "processing" for a few seconds, then return to "Online" (waiting for instructions) for several more seconds, then "processing"... and so it takes much longer than it should. Again, in Windows XP, the printer is constantly processing for the print job--the data is sent as one stream, or so I'm assuming. Is there some setting in the print drivers I may have overlooked, or could it be an issue with how Ubuntu is using my parallel port? Any ideas are welcome... so far, I've searched and come up empty.

All I can think of is to try changing your parallel port setting between ECP and EPP in the BIOS and see if that makes a difference. And check if you're using a proper IEEE1284 bidirectional printer cable. However I'd guess there's just some "Issue" with the Linux driver Have you tried looking in the documentation for the driver, on the site of the people who maintain it?
