I powered on my first coil last night.

Link2

Steve Ward's driver schematic, a simple interrupter (I had UC3803 ICs, no 555 timers) , 30N60A4DS Intersil IGBTs in full bridge (left over from the old days), and 200VDC in from PFC rectifier.

When I get the CTs to not be saturate I'll set the PFC to 400V.

So far I have 8" locally spun toroid, decorative plates on top of it, 1190 turns 30AWG 2x formvar, 66nF tank cap, and 2x 35uF, 600V ECI Unlytic film caps right at IGBT full bridge.

Very nice! So what did you use for the pll? By any chance was it the 4046? Are you saying it is a drsstc? Because you said it had a tank cap, and for regular sstc's i think it is just called a dc blocking cap..

It is a DRSSTC, and uses a 4046. I'm rather tempted to try primary current feedback. Right now, I suspect I'm paying a huge penalty waiting for the loop to pull in. I know I'm getting de-sat events on the IGBTs, though I'm not doing anything with it, as I want them to desaturate during ringup :(
