ok so i have been using SSH to ftp into the university printers from home.i use putty to SSH. i login to the printer using put the .prn file into it its a hp jetdirect.
i was wondering is there a way to add this printer to my normal list of printers on my laptop running vista home premium? like when i want to print something from like say word, that printer will appear there and i just ave to select it?

I imagine you can set your laptop up for "Standard TCP/IP printing" using a method similar to this:
and then use PuTTY to forward the appropriate port to the printer. I've never tried it, though. You might need to select "Raw" instead of "LPR", and the port will probably be 9100.

That would be your best bet, although if you can't make that work you might be able to do kind of a hacky method. I assume the printer will accept pdf documents (don't all network printers these days?), so just get a print-to-pdf printer driver and set the default file save location to
