Hi Guys,
Have heard a lot of great things about SISG coils and was wondering what it would take to convert my current coil (4" 1000 turn secondary, 12K/60ma NST etc) over.

Also was wondering if I can use Java TC for a SISG coil....

Any thoughts would be appreciated....;- )

I think all you would have to do is replace the spark gap with the sisg module. I am quite sure any sgtc calculator will work fine, the only difference is the spark gap which will not change anything. Same tank cap and everything.

Just MAKE SURE OF THE CURRENT!
Or your SISG-module can fail due to pulsed overcurrent - the IGBTs can handle some overload even above the given pulsed current value from datasheet for such a short time the SISG firing takes, but it's still not unlimited.

Also, every SISG I've ever seen was DC only. They only "spark" in the forward direction, and conduct in reverse like a diode. You'd need a high voltage rectifier for your NST.

Thanks guys for all the great info....

Am using boards that I got from Mark Dunn so nothing too exotic or different from the standard approach that everyone else seems to be using.... 12KV will need a lot of diodes to rectify so am thinking it might be simpler to just go with a rectified MOT (similar to the piranah)....

One quick question though..... With a rectified MOT/SISG configuration will I need to use a different capacitance value for my tank circuit.... I assume that the tank/primary/secondary/topload is already tuned as a resonant system and therefore should not need to be changed for a different charging/trigger system... Is this the right thought?

Am trying to avoid any part of the upgrade that does not need to be changed so I can have the SISG upgrade in place for halloween...;- )

Much appreciate the benefit of your experience and insight.....

Bob J

No, there should be no need for changes to the tank circuit.

Yish on Ebay is selling some high voltage rectifiers.

Hi Steve

Couldn't find a YISH ebay store.... Assumed that I am looking at an array of 1N4007 for the rectifier... Do you have a link you could share?

Thanks again...
