Hi,

Have done calculations based on 10kV supply, 50Hz at 50mA and all the usual parameters.

I am calculating a secondary self capacitance of 8.85pF and inductance of 33.5mH.

Using my primary inductance and tank cap i get 215.52kHz resonant. Using thhat frequency and inputting to the secondary inductance i get 16.28pF of capacitance required.

Should my topload be sized for 16.28pF or should i subtract the coil self capacitance already calculated at 8.85 meaning 7.433pF of topload?

Have attatched my work in progress excel calculation sheet as a zip file. There are no macros and i think everything is working ok.

Hi Stuart,
The frequency of the primary and the secondary must be the same.
The inductance and capacitance of the primary will determine the primary frequency.
The inductance of the secondary and the self-capacitance plus the topload capacitance
determine the secondary frequency.
Your primary just has to have a greater inductance than needed so you have enough turns to tune it.
Nice little calculator you have there, you just need a topload calculator. (minor and major diameters)

Hi, thanks for that. This is what i had thought but i had not seen it explicitly mentioned in any posts or on the common sites... having now said that, how many people will come and say "it on my site"? smile
