Hi all.
OK this is pretty neat. The excessive price of glow sticks got me wondering about an alternative and I found one.
Get some glycerine, ideally food grade but lab grade is better (less water). Obtain some glow powder, I used the Ebay variety but any SrAlEuO5 based (any colour) will work for this.
Add glow powder to the glycerin, and drop in a few small screws to ensure thorough mixing (bearings also work if clean) then shake thoroughly until mixed.
Test with UV light, I found that a very small amount less than 1/4 of a gram of powder will make it glow very nicely :)
If you want to make it circulate in a sealed tube system, you can also make a small motor with a spare fan with bearings recessed into the hub, and a length of tubing running through the middle.
Enjoy!
