Could a 74AC245 chip be used in a tiny solid state tesla coil? The 74AC245 is a Octal Tri-state Bus Transceiver but in beam robotics it is used to form a full bridge motor drive circuit. With 50 ma per full bridge and two full bridges per chip a small tesla coil could be built. For more power some people stack chips with good results. An SSTC of this size would have a frequency well into the MHz range; you said this IC is commonly used for motor control, where the frequency used is less than 100Hz. Will the chip be able to operate at such a high frequency? Will it even be stable enough in a TC environment to function properly?

the chip is a Octal Tri-state Bus Transceiver which I means 2 way data transmission which means it should be good in the Mhz range. Go to Solarbiotics.net to see the article. It should be under Beam circuits and then motor drivers.

I had a coil like that and it died. That is what nano tess is and it only uses about 3 watts. Also those driver chips are expensive. This could also be used to drive a small camera flash circuit too.
