Depending on the fiber coupler it may indeed be expensive...

Some types look identical, but have a slight angle cut on the fiber end.

If you plug one type into the other the coupler/laser may be damaged.

Yikes!
I better stick with a lens then unless I am positive...

i am fairly sure that APC's (they grind an 8degree slant into the end to minimize back reflection, which can screw with the delicate DFB lasers uses for telecom) only are used for telecom stuffs; I have never heard of an angled SMA-905 or anything that resembling a SMA that is angled. There really is not any point for large diodes like this since they are quite immune to back reflection (for reasons I wont go into, just know that a telecom laser are about 1000-1000,000x more sensitive to back reflections than a large pump diode)

APC should be coloured green anyway, to avoid the kinds of expensive mistakes carbon_rod hinted at. In any case, the angle is obvious if you look at the end of the connector. It's only an issue when you're plugging into a bulkhead connector, and can't see whether what's in there is an APC or a flattie. Plastic bulkheads should be green, and metal ones should be labelled "APC" or "Angled" by whoever built the equipment.

Well that makes sense. Seems dumb to leave that open to easy error when they expect you to pay $10k for a laser!

So I will keep my eyes open for a good deal on a cable...
So now back to the psu. What would be an acceptible amount of ripple from a psu? How might I test for spikes at turn on and off? I have an old 10Mhz scope, but have no idea how to catch a fast spike? The 5% ripple speced ought to be obvious on this thing. Seeing as I am not going to be running even close to the lasers max, shouldnt this ripple be nothing to worry about? Could an MOV be used to kill spikes?
thanks guys! I am excited about this 40 watt laser coming!

Yea, I was weary about doing this. But I have dealt with him before and got a refund on shipping too without problem. Im sure the same will go for this laser. It could be junk, but at least looks clean and cared for. (Has a jumper wire on, and a fiber termination cap on). Appears someone felt the laser was worth treating right still. Paid via paypal.

Well see how it goes...Hes got more up, looks like recycled pictures though. I HOPE I get the one in the picture as its stamped as being from 2006!

Oh yea its the same guy. Not to be trusted at all! He did that right after I explained to him that the lasers are useless.
