I am building the miniBrute DRSSTC now in Australia. It is the DC supply for the half bridge that I am unsure about. We are 240VAC here like UK/Europe so I won't need to use the voltage doubler described in the schematic. So can anyone suggest how I can make the +/- 240VDC supply and also provide for the primary coil return to the neutral power line ie: to 0V line between the + and - DC lines. Has anyone outside of the US built this coil? I have attached the schematic of the relevant circuit.

I have built two SGTCs but this is my first SSTC. My electronics theory is moderate. I have been a member of this group for a few months now and have read much but this is my first post. I appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks.

Hello,

luckily for you i already gone trough this. Simply use a

AC - FULLWAVE RECTIFIER - DC BUS CAP and connect this to half bridge + and - on board. The return of primary connect to - of you DC bus cap. NOT to AC line like with voltage doubler.

Check my DRSSTC here Link2

Its already kicking 30 + inch, im waiting for spun toroid

Thanks very much for the reply. Seems strange to me but I will give it a try. What cap did you use? Dan suggests cap size should be at least 400VDC at 1400uF.

How is your DRSSTC going? It looks very nice! Well done.

You can trust me about primary return, i did it after discussing it with Steve Ward. And it works smile .

Regarding capacitor size, yes you should really use minimally 1400 uF possibly 2-3 000 uF. Im not sure about my cap i really forgot it, and im at work now. Its evox rifa i think about 3-4 000 uF, i really forgot

I second that,
my first DRSSTC used a half bridge working from 240 volt mains.
I too terminated my primary at either the + or - bus supply and it worked fine as long as you have your MMC connected too.
