For some reason I have got a bit obsessed with electrostatic spraying lately - you know when something fiercely grabs your interest?

I'm looking for a bit of inspiration on a supply to use in electrostatic induction experiments.
I want to rig up a charged ring that I can spray water drops or soap bubbles through from grounded nozzles to observe how they are attracted to other objects.
I have been looking on the internet at things like ionizers with the idea that i could attach the HV output to a metal ring, but i wonder if there's an even simpler solution that I'm missing.

I saw the wand toy in the post below and considered a VDG, but constructing one would seem more difficult than just buying a module off the shelf.

Thanks for any pointers,

Look at this video
Link2

It looks like he took one of those VDG wands and added a tube for making soap bubbles at the end.

Hey that's interesting, thanks Dr Zoidberg. I have been looking at electrostatic spraying online as well. I think I'd like to try a small HV circuit. What is the easiest & cheapest type to buy or construct?

The cheapest and easiest would be an air ioniser/purifier. Costs about $5.

or "flyback" high voltage transformer you remove from old TV, and a $3 drive circuit (made out of a 555 timer and MOSFET transistor), it will also produce much higher voltages than the ionizer (20-30 or more kV)

Thanks to the good Doctors for the replies above. That confirmed what I was thinking - I just wasn't really sure. I have found a cheap car ioniser that I can connect to a DC supply. I expect this will contain a small cockroft walton type multiplier right? And I should be able to connect to the +ve HV electrode after taking out the needles.
I wonder if there is any advantage in having an electrode charged +ve (or -ve) for electrostatic spraying?
