SSTC with no toroid

Hey, i want to build an SSTC with no toroid. What I am trying to do, is get the arc to jump a gap (just like a sgtc) but not for voltage multiplication. The secondary winding will be wound over a form just like usual, however each end of the secondary will be connected to a tungsten spark gap. My question is, teslamap wont calculate my res. frequency of the coil because I don't have a toroid, so how do I figure out what I am resonating at? I don't want to blow the mosfets on my board. Right now my coil is going to be wound on a 3.75" OD pvc form.

hmm, that tesla designer is giving me problems, maybe somebody can help. I am using a 3.75" OD form, 32awg wire, an want it to resonate around 300khz. How many turns do I need to put on the secondary to acheive this. I do not wish to use a toroid, if I can avoid it.

Edit: I also plan to use a 5" primary form, wrapped with 14awg wire, and the primary winding will be cylindrical, vertical and parallel to the secondary (unless somebody feels that a flat winding would better suit this application)

You can just put in small numbers for the toroid calculation, which will give you a good approximation (at least as good as the rest of the assumptions made in the program)

Using the calculator I suggested, it gives me 1400 turns on your sized former with a winding length of 11.2" for a frequency of 301kHz.
