To short secondary coil, can I use it for anything?

The 'to-be' secodary coil is 11cm in diameter but only 22cm tall.

It where supposed to become a 11cm x 45cm, but I ran out of enammeled copper wire. (stupid spool, where mainly made of plastic)
Is it usable for anything?
Or could I join in another wire if I get more with the same gauge?

You could use it for a mini sstc, its about the exactly size of the one steve ward used for his mini sstc.

This Coil: Link2 ?
It looks really awsome :) !
But, I am not a very skilled with such complicated stuff :( Anyway, there where schematics there wich I might copy.
But, I dont think i could get all the parts for the circuits. :(
Maybe some day in the future it might become a coil XD

SSTC usually needs many turns, how many turns does your secondary have? If its under 1000, it will most likely perform poorly.

It dont got much more than 500-600 turns :(

It where itended to be around 1000 when it where complete.
But, I do have a lot of thinner wire aviable, so i could make a new coil, but it where supposed to be less turns and a wider diameter than my last coil. it where 7cm x 50cm with maybe 2000 turns, In an SGTC. This new coil where so extremly good wound, that i dont want to trow it away.

But, now that SSTC looks very tempting :) (not with this coil, maybe a new. in the future.)

So how will it work with 1001 turns?

According to your specifications, for 500 turns your wire thickness is 0.44mm, so according to wintesla your resonant frequency is about 700kHz. Please download wintesla from Link2 or any similar software so you can do the calculations yourself.

It's the other thing that circuits like mini SSTC and similar are generally unpredictable in behavior and very often a lot of trial and error for setup. That's the price we pay for using nothing but resistors and diodes as deadtime generators...

I don't know. I only meant that it's easier to get bigger sparks with more turns on the secondary.

You should have no problems joining another spool onto your coil to wind the rest. This coil is joined in two different places, one more obvious than the other. (Like the topload?) It's 11 x 22 cm just like yours, with the topload fres is down in the 250kHz range. If you don't recognize it it's the coil used in my first SSTC. Link2 For reference it only has 600 - 700 turns.

Smexy topload! Nice coil!

How did you do the join the wires? Without having sparks shooting out of the joint?

BTW, Okay if I copy your settup, maybe?

Hehe, go ahead. As long as the coil itself doesn't suffer from racing sparks (over-coupled, sparks will race up the side of the coil) there shouldn't be problems. A little epoxy or varnish over top will completely insulate it again, just as well as the surroundings windings. The wires were joined by stripping off about 5mm of enamel, and soldering them together while they were lying flat against each other. It's unlikely that the solder joint will be a weakspot.
