Can the calculator to find secondary resonant frequency at this site be used to find the secondary resonant frequency in tube Tesla coils? All you do is give it the amount of wire you will be using and it gives you secondary resonant frequency, seems almost too easy.

Calculating the resonance frequencies in secondaries with topload and primaries with cap tank should be the same for SGTC and VTTC, but i do stand by to get corrected :)
You could also use the JAVATC calculator, thats what I used to plan my VTTC with.

however I am suspicious because all it asks for is the length of wire and nothing else. Will the calculator work reliably? I need to wind three different primaries for a science fair project.

Use this version of the calculator. If you are using a VT to switch the current, then you don't need to worry about the primary resonance, only the proxcimity inductance it adds to the secondary. In that light, just build everything correctly except the resonant capacitor, as the switch will take care of the resonance.

A coil is a coil, regardless of how it is being driven (spark, tube, igbt, mosfet, fart power :0) That calculator comes close but can't give you the exact frequency. With a tube driving the secondary, the feedback coil will find the resonant frequency and drive it there. Of course it all depends on the tube as to the size of your secondary.
