Hmm, i am getting very curious about this design of DRSSTC-2 on eastern's web page.
It doesn't exist and the page doesn't load properly here.

Anyone know about a circuit for the driver of this coil, costs...etc..

that would be great.
:)

Forget about the DRSSTC2. That is an old link and is based on generation 1 drive scheme. Use the minibrute schematic shown on the home ordering page.

The minibrute driver can be used up to CM600 style IGBTs for super high power, not just the med power the minibrute was designed for.

Too much $$$ .. those CM600 IGBTs are over $500 new.. I will have to cancel my interest in DDSTCs for now/

woahhh... you dont have to cancel interest in drsstc's quite yet. cm500 bricks are for very high power drsstc's and they are not resommended to a new drsstc builder. Why dont you put yourself in the bulk buy Link2 for some IXGN60N60C2D1 igbt's. They are very good for the price and if used properly you should be able to get some 40" streamers from it.

Actually CM 600 bricks are probably the easiest and least expensive IGBTs available for DRSSTC use - used on EBAY can be as little as $15.00 each (ive seen them) The difficulty is the more advanced gate drive circuit for those guys.

But, my point wasn't that you need CM600's, but rather my miniBrute schematic (driver) is good for all sizes of DRSSTCs, not just small ones. The DRSSTC2 as you showed interest in is a higher power design than the miniBrute, however, i'm saying the schematic for the miniBrute driver is good for up to very high powers if you use the appropriate IGBTs.

I think his problem is same as mine, just nobody wants to ship those big igbt's outside of US. I was looking after some CM300's, they are really cheap but none will apparently be shippable to my country any time soon.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but we international coilers have ran into trouble finding suitable DRSSTC IGBT's in overall, we are basically left at mercy of TO247 packages.

The whole 60N60 story might not be fruitful in the end at all considering really long lead times.

Well, I also don't have the patience for soldering all those components.
So, if the boards were prebuilt in a kit form, I'd go for it.
DIGIKEY has CM600s for $500 ea ... 1200V 600A

For CM600 try Ebay, but I don't see why you can't just start off with a smaller coil, like SSTC regular or class-E.

Anything that throws sparks less than 80" I am uninterested in. Been there and done that.
