I have spent a couple of days on the wb! I want to build a linear power supply ( to drive fly backs etc) from the parts I have i.e. 4 x 24 volt transformer ( identical) Volt regulators,Zeners, caps etc but no 74xx chips So I don't want to use a comparitor /op amp circuit
I would like 10 - 48 ( possibly 96) volts at 6 amps and be able to vary the voltage and if possible the amperage. Would some kind person help me find / suggest a suitable diagram or the principles to achieve this The regulation does not have to be wonderful

Eirik made a very nice SMPS from mostly harvested parts. It goes from 15 to 48 volt sending out a total of 15 amps and it got a over current protection.

Thanks Ace7one I would like to build the switched mode PSu at some latter date but at the moment it is beyond my experience, knowledge and capability. I have noticed some aspects that are useful in the circuit and now know what the mysterious GDT abbreviation means .. even if I still dont know what a gate drive transformer is or does:) I mant to tandem the 24volt, identical transformers and achive 24 - 96 volts if I can My original intention was to just switch the outputs out in series but that failed because i was using the rectification and voltage regulation on each 24 volt circuit I will carry on experimenting and reading up until I succeed or some one gives me some hint asto how to control the V and A

You can try the L200 from ST.
If you see the examples in the datasheet, you can add a transistor in series to achieve higher output voltage. There is also ways to increase the total current, for instance parallel them.
