Hello again everyone!

I am back with another ebay auction. I would like to know if this induction motor will be suitable for a SRSG, or if I am over doing it with this motor:

thanks again everyone!

for 120 B.P.S synchronous you need 1800 rpm not 1500 or 1750.

I was going to design a gap similar to this one:

for the lazy ones who dont want to click the link, its a tiny piece of plastic with a tungsten electrode attached. No torque really needed

We've had discussions about the dangers of Terry's RSG. If that piece of tungsten comes out of the "tiny piece of plastic", it becomes a tungsten arrow of frightening speed. And don't think any shrapnel shield will stop it.

could i get a link to that discussion? was everyone agreeing that his RSG was not a good idea because of the issues or what?

regardless, what do you think of that motor? Its nice and cheap, and if I can find a way to create a lightweight propeller SG the power problem might be alleviated.

Its not nearly that dangerous, and there are ways to make it totally safe (by putting collars on either side of the PE block, for example). Still, ive never had a rod loosen up on any of my RSGs based on this design.

Ive accidentally stopped this exact type of gap with my finger. If the rotor comes unbalanced, the motor doesnt have the power to keep it going much anyway, and furthermore, its likely to collide with a stationary electrode and stop the wimpy little motor dead in its tracks.

This type of gap is probably slightly SAFER than a normal RSG that has 1) a very powerful drive motor, 2) a large disk with lots of intertia. These 2 things provide a good setup for electrodes to collide, and shear off, something thats unlikely to happen with a low inertia (low stored energy) setup with a wimpy drive motor.

The whole thing about the shaft shooting out like an arrow is extremely unlikely, and could easily be stopped by some mechanical stopper set up to stop the rod if it wanders out of boundaries.

that's what I thought.

So this motor looks good then? I mean, $7.50, you can't beat that!

too bad the min order for the site is $15, I'm gonna have to spend time looking around for more junk to buy, :)
