Hello all,
I am fed up with ebay and have decided to look into making my own website. It will have alot of my projects on it, as well as some things I have for sale. (Uranium and lasers). To tell the truth , I dont know much about building them but do know there are programs to help out. ( dont have time to learn HTML coding). Could some people here with websites reccomend some places to learn at? How about whom you use for your sites and the costs? Really I am looking to be pointed in the right direction...
Thanks!
Matt

As far as an HTML editor, microsoft word does all the basics. If you just want a subdomain, go with iifree.net, they have 10GB space free.

I think that's a great idea and I'll certainly check the site out (I really don't like Ebay - either).
There are SO MANY HTML web page composers that knowing HTML is really superfluous.
You'll learn (HTML by default) as you play with the programs but really - all they are is desktop publishing programs that spits out HTML code which you then post up to your site. It's so easy a caveman can do it.

Try a few until you get one that you really feel comfortable with.. Use the standard ones like FrontPage (Microsoft)......but there ARE quite a few. Grab them as a torrent for free until you make up your mind on the one that you would really want to buy so that the documentation and support are there......HA! Remember the 1990's when you ACTUALLY GOT SOME BOOKS WITH YOUR SOFTWARE? Those days are over.....but have fun: that's what it should be about!
You'll get support IF you ask people to visit the site!!!

Er, are you going to learn, or not? ;)

Well, I only can advise to find someone who uses CSS and XHTML and don't use tables for building website's skeleton. Much likely this person will do a good job with creating simple, clean and elegant website.

Also, I know there are sites, where you can put a request, tell what techniques for creating website (CSS, Flash, PHP etc.) you want, how much you can pay etc., and wait until someone contacts you.

I'm not familiar with costs, I hardly guess 100-150 dollars sound reasonable for a simple website made with pure CSS.

for my website, I have turned an old house computer into the server (even though it is old, the traffic load is not that high)... I use Apache for the actual hosting, easy, you dont pay for the actual hosting, etc... but if you want to use a corporate a service, then ignore this...

I used Tripod.com, but it's not all that great, and has lots of pop ups. HTML is easy to learn the essentials. I learned it when I was like 10 or 11.

I am somewhat surprised that no one has mentioned the 4hv hosting since its cheep and you get to support the forum smile

As to creating content, you would be amazed what you can do with a few <p> <br> and <a href...> tags and notepad... I can write pages for my site Link2 in about as long as it takes me to compose a similar forum post amazed. If you want it to look nice just add a css page and link it in the header of the page (you can view the page source for my site to see how that is done).

But if you really want to make the pages by hand word will do it, or you can try one of the countless html composers out there (see other comments for info about those)

Ugh, MS Word and Frontpage. angry

FWIW, my site is all hand coded in HTML, except for the photo gallery and blog scripts, which are Pixelpost and Wordpress. I always intended to switch over to a proper CMS, but I stopped updating the site and just posted on the blog instead, which amounts to the same thing smile

It's hosted on the 4hv server like ... suggested.

Hello,
thank you for all the good tips! I really want to start off slow. (Not much money, nor time). I dont want to go the free route, as I have just heard too much crap about it, but dont want to be paying another "cell phone" bill each month either. Id love to learn the code, but trying to finish calc3 and move into E-math is just too much for me right now. (I am REALL bad at math! Yea yea, I mean it. Ive only gotten this far due to alot of blood, sweat, and tears...) My brain is just maxed out. Those HTML composers sound nice smile
So as I underatand, I need three things:
1-Pay for a domain name
2-Pay for webspace (could use the 4hv space, right?)
3-Get an html composer
Matt

Try Note Tab Light. It's a freeware html program. Thats actually what I started on when I was like 12.
Website: Link2
I highly recommend it.
