Hi folks,

About this time Last year I built Steve Wards Mini Coil Link2, then about January or so I built a decent stand for it
SD530551

So I called it completed. It still had some major draw backs, such as ALWAYS killing the Gate resistor and frying the fets, well fter the last 250n Fet that got fried I ordered some new ones only to find out that I had ordered 450n's after I had blown up all 12 of them angry, once that happened I had sorta given up on the hole thing, and started on a DRSSTC Steve wards DRSSTC .5 with his DRSSTC 3 driver board and I also decided that I would ramp up and go for a full bridge instead of a 1/2, and decided on getting PCBs instead of Perf boards, so i ordered the boards and got 3 1 for the DRSSTC, and the others for whatever.

After about a month of having the mini coil sitting around staring at me and the DRSSTC not getting too much head way, the decision was made to pause the testing of teh DRSSTC and rebuild the Mini coil with a one of the left over full bridge boards and also use 1/2 wave rectification instead of full just to see if I could boost the output length and also make it completely PCB made so that it would look professional.

Well with the basic electronics being over hauled, and DR. Spark whipping out the Stroker in the usual plexi glass state I thought it was a bout time to try making case, Primary, and Interruptor box from acrylic again, this time however I decided I better try laying out some stuff so I have a better idea of it to try and keeping it looking better.

Here's the proposed project Overhauling order:

1) Make a new primary support system since this is what it looks like right now 1198159982 618 FT1630 Sd530543
, and change out my 10AWG wire for some nice copper tubing and add a strike ring since I will be beefing up the power.

2)Replace my secondarys end caps 1198159982 618 FT1630 Sd530541

with snazzy plexiglass ones.

3) Recoat my secondary with more polyureathane, since right now it kinda feels like roghed up wood, if your were to run your hand along the secondary you would feel a roughness since theres only 1 or 2 coats, so Id like to try Dr. Sparks method of coat, sand and re-apply to give it a nice glass look.

4) Replace my drain pipe secondary with a nice spun copper one from....Daniel Uhrenholt.

So for a nice visual as to what this part of the Overhaul would look like heres a 3d image I whipped of over fri and sat.

Once this part of the overhaul is complete I'll continue the thread with the other sections of the TC.

Impressive 3D arts, I am looking forward to see your final coil :)

Looks cool with the primary plexi also holding the strikerail, the arts do not show it, but I assume there is a gap in the rail to slide it into the plexi and so it wont act as a primary winding.

Did you stop blowing fets etc running it halfwave?

No I just haven't bought any fets for a while, I'm kinda hoping that using a DRSSTC power electronics design will prevent the fets from blowing up, I may also try using left over IGBT's to run this.
