what is an effective etchant to etch graphite? i wan to remove the graphite from substrates. if any, what would be useful for etching graphite? thanks.....

What's the substrate? If it's glass then you could burn the graphite off, but not a lot of things will etch graphite. I'm not sure it reacts with anything at room temp. Fluorine might but it's not something you want to work with.
