The flybacks from rear projection TVs are AMAZING. I have one and I've pumped an unbelievable amount of power through it without it failing.
Amen to that! Same experience here....I have one that took a great deal of hassle due to the size of the TV as a whole and disposal of the unused parts...but - wow, that was one of the most powerful LOPT I have even hooked up! I actually has more output than a unit that was made for a much larger single tube. My only critique is that it has "spray" and that one needs to be careful when drawing arcs. Additionally, It seems to be made with a higher level of quality than many others.
If you can find them, little black & white video monitors have very simple flybacks. They are very small. but they are very elementary and if you can get several they make some REALLY interesting arrays. I once saw someone stack 4 together so I tried it (4 in series for the secondary). It worked almost no matter HOW I hooked them together. I even tried wrapping the primary around two units at a time (just to see if it would function at all....) it did fine. Those type of video monitors are available at places like casinos (if you live near a Reservation) or high volume foot traffic areas....Might even be easy to find in the UK also. (They seem to have more cameras than anything else....) Monochrome CRT's have more of a relationship between the screen size and the LOPT's construction than TV's or color monitors....or so it seems.
