I did not have the stuff for a proper sstc so i decided to make one with a 555. I get about 2 inch really hot sparks with 44 volts input. It will light a florescent tube qite bright from 2 feet away. It will make plasma inside of a light bulb as well.

This is the schematic: Link2
I know that it is hard to see because i am not good at drawing schematics and because i had to take a picture of it with my camera which made a black line horizontal across the screen. And i know there is a LOT to be improved upon on the sstc, but i am a beginner with sstc's and i am fairly happy and proud about it. I might upload a video in a few weeks because i need some more irfp460's cause i just burnt my last ones :(.

UPDATE: Fixed the circuit.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Took a better picture. This one you can actually see..

it would also help if a bd139/bd140 combo was added

Cool... I just need to get some :(. I will not work on this for long as i am getting a new vacuum tube and this one will actually look half way decent... 25 INCH SPARKS BABY!

Oh yea, i also forgot to say i used an irfp460 mosfet, not whatever it said on the circuit.

i was just thinking could you power this type of coil from rectified mains by using a gdt

by the way there is "prt scr" button ... press it and try to "paste" in paint

This is not Class E. For Class E operation you need to add a resonant capacitor D-S on your FET. It will significantly improve performance if you do, tho.

I wonder if you have express PCB?
Link2
Express PCB will do all the manufacturing for you, but it is kind of expensive.

So I say go with Eagle.
Link2

They have wonderful Schematic programs.

With eagle, it will even help you translate the schematic to the PCB when you think you have it right.
If your Eagle stuff is ready to send into production, the guys at batch PCB will make your board for you for $2.50 a square inch.

But really, I was just showing you these so you can have a nice Schematic Diagram program.

In circuitmaker you can export as bmp, just goto export and choose device dependent bitmap, then save bmp, go into paint and convert it to png, then toss it up in the thread.

There is the schematic... Also, i think i will try that eagle schematic maker thing. Also, is that schematic not class E? I have a capacitor going from drain to source. It does really improve performance, hotter arcs and better breakout.

Also, i forgot to tell the primary and secondary specs. It is a 4 inch by 16 inch secondary with 28 gauge wire, the primary is something like 28 turns.
