ZVS flyback troubles

A capacitor that heats up quickly? Very strange, as capacitors normally don't dissipate significant energy. Possibly a wrong connection or insufficient voltage rating.

I connected the channel A to AC wires, and channel B to + and - on the rectified.

I didn't have a capacitor with high enough capacitance at that voltage level, only worked for my old 12Vdc supply, so yes, its just underrated.

Calibration buttons for channel A and B are in the calibrated position

Both channels have the same ground. If you connect the ground leads of the probes to different points, you short-circuit the points. In a full-wave bridge, the connection short-circuits the AC signal trough one of the diodes (this may damage something...).

I have found the fault on my scope that was giving me all this trouble, it was a capacitor on the channel B board that was damaged from being pushed into another solderpoint, after some minor repair its working like a charm and I can now get all kinds of different signals without noise or mixed signals :)

The series inductor, is it made of ferrite? It is supposed to be iron, those yellow ones found in for instance ATX PSUs.

I don't think it's ferrite because apparently ferrite doesn't like DC. I think it's iron powder but I'm not exactly sure. I know that the ones from ATX power supplies (the yellow ones) work well. I have found one that is blueish-green that also works well that is from an ATX power supply.

Its an old inductor I just rewinded, I think its iron powder, and it works with the zvs just fine.

Ferrite most likely works as well, there has been some discussion on that if there is no gap in the series inductor (=very big inductance), saturation might not matter at all as it will still provide more or less constant current.

Someone might try.
