OK so I have been reading a bunch of stuff on sstc's and i have a book on spark gap tc's, Im gonna start diving into this pretty soon, I just got my check from work so I have money again.

Should I start with a scrappy mosfet design? Or should I just jump in a buy some igbt's and some good caps?

I have a soldering iron, buying an o-scope, and a decent workstation. Any other things I should get?

That's pretty fair, especially if it is 2-4 channels and possibly storage.

I'm on my 3rd scope, first broke, second one was donated to make way for a ~400mhz analog "storage" scope. $150 used. Bout 70 lbs or something absurd like that. Gotta look for deals. I upgraded because I wanted to do RF work.

I'm not sure if it is storage - it can store waveforms... either way - back to your topic. LCR Meter and a good soldering iron ($100). Lotsa thin wire cheesey
