Alright, I was thinking.
If you use transistors mosfets ect to switch the current on and off in a transformer isn't that converting the dc to alternating current? Then comes my point, can't I simply connect the first coil of a microwave oven transformer to the wall and the second coil through some large diodes to the capacitor?

depends... first, if you use a full wave or half wave rectifier, and second the configuration of the mosfets that were originally used... but when you use mosfets you do not necessarily form AC current, but pulsed DC... but again, it depends on the configuration... I would think using just a MOT and some diodes would be fine, but I use an isolation transformer whenever using one of those this outside a microwave to be safe, but that is just me...

Wait, how are the transistors involved here? It sounds like you want to plug an MOT into the wall, rectify the output to DC, and charge a capacitor with it. If that's what you mean, it will work fine, as long as the diodes can take the voltage.
Also if you have a very large capacitor bank, you may want to consider charging through a resistor to limit the current.
