I have no polyurethane, but i have some acrylic floor polish, it is called Future. Would it work> i know it does not conduct, because i tried it with a homemade flyback driver it worked quite well. just want to make sure it will not haunt me later.

Future is junk. It will get sticky and dust and bugs and sawdust will get stuck to it. And all of those ARE conductive.
Go up to home depot, they should have some good inexpensive varnish. I bought a small can for like 8 bucks, and it coated three 4" coils and my 6" coil before my girlfriend spilled it all over the garage floor.

I am sure that wasn't fun to clean :P. But if that is the case i ruined 5 inches of the secondary. I tried it because my secondary was starting to overlap and i wanted to keep that from happening... Nevermind i did not ruin it! All i have to do is put some varnish on it.
