Well i could not help my self (with all the topics about drsstcs), to start gathering parts for a my own .
So could someone give some advice , on the subject, which igbt to choose for a H-bridge design? For now what i could get are, the IRG4PC50UD aka "Best bang for buck" (600V, 200Ap) or the BSM50GB120D (brick half bridge , 1200V, 140Ap 25℃ 100Ap 80℃) , maybe someone had any experience with a simlular piece? what spark length could i expect.

never used "bricks" so far , is there anything that would need special attention in the design?

Im surprised there was no reply to this.

The brick you have there is relatively fast, but id say keep the operating frequency to 100khz or less. It can likely withstand many times its rated peak collector current, maybe 400-500A id say. So running a full-bridge at 650VDC would probably get you over 6 foot sparks for sure.

Thanks alot Steve

well in the meantime , the primary caps (siemens/epcos mkv B25835) and the energy storage caps (philips 450V 2200uf) had arrived (igbts and most missing parts for the drivers are on the way) but still haven't made up my mind about the secondary's "size" . Some one said someting like : it's the "best" when made with the thinest wire on a short, "fat" former
