....Seems a shame to loose a good transformer (an expensive, well made product) and IF IT IS a Thermal Fuse; please post the brand of x-former, where you found the fuse and method of repair.
If you're not in a real hurry hunt down a Toshiba MOT: in general they appear larger than others and there are a whole group of them that are quite roomy. The biggest non-commercial MOT I've seen was a Toshiba; consistently larger than others in it's output range.
