Yes, aluminum metal works just as well if not better than copper in a TC primary. IIRC, its slightly less conductive but has better skin depth. Factor in reduced cost, reduced weight, and reduced oxidation, and i think we have a winner!

The only problem I can see is making connections to the primary when you can not solder to it. Clamp or bolt your wires to it and it should work just fine.

But I think flashing is most commonly used in the home made capacitors. Flashing doesn't usually come in sheets any less than 6" wide, so you would need to cut it .

You can just take the whole rool of flashing and cut it with a hacksaw or something prior to unwrapping it and then you wouldent have to worry about cutting it as you go along.

I did that with my band saw; it worked OK but some of the aluminum stuck together so i had to pry it apart in the end to unroll it. Id suggest figuring out some other method of cutting the aluminum if you want a nice edge on it.
In the end i scrapped my primary made from 3" wide aluminum strip because it was too hard to keep it from arcing to the secondary with the extremely sharp edges of the primary. Having round copper tubing instead really does make a good difference.

Oh yeah, didn't think about that. With flashing, you have really sharp edges. Some people have used spring bronze weatherstripping as a primary: Unlike the aluminum flashing with the sharp edges the brass has folded edges.
