B-E-A-utiful. Your construction technique is excellent, and the coil is coming together well. Keep up the good work!

Well.... add up a nice lathe and 4 years of experence with it and that is the result. The end caps are made from pvc material so i can just glue them to the pvc pipe with standard pvc glue and i made the standoff from plastic and i cut grooves into it on the lathe.

Today i made lots of progress on the coil. I mounted the mmc, made the safety gap and wound the rf chokes.

Wasn't it said before that using a series inductor as an RF choke is bad? I might be wrong, because I know I've used them myself, but I just think I remember reading that.

Not necessarily bad, but at most pointless. RC filters are the thing these days. There are numerous great threads on this topic on the TCML, one from just last week. And also on 4hv a couple of weeks ago: Link2

EDIT: So that this post doesn't come of as all negative, however: The coil's looking great! Can't wait to see some sparkiness!!

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

Hey man, very nice work! It's great to see you have enough patience to do the work so nicely! You are one of the few people who are patient enough to do the finishing nicely as well. Great coil! smile

Nice coil! Do not forget the strikerail. Any strike to the primary turns can produce breakdown of the MOTs (low insulation there).

My mom had a heart attack from freaking MOT arcs from a 3' PVC chicken stick.

As for the coil, she's beautiful. I love the variac too, where the heck did you get that thing?
