i built a spot welder last week, and refined it alittle today. The transformer is estimated to around 1-1.5KVA, output current estimated to around 500-1000A and output voltage around a volt, the room lights dim when activated if the tongs are closed with no work piece.

Awesome! Would be great for assembling sheet metal boxes or for the amateur car hobbyist. Just out of curiosity, where did you get those thick slabs of copper?

Looks cool, though I have no idea what I would use it for. A rewound mot with 1.5 turns of something very thick should be able to do the same thing if you leave the shunts in, and provide a good 1-2kA of current.

I used a MOT first that i had deleted the secondary from, but it was so loud, so i took the primary and a core of the same size that could be laminated the right way. No shunts here!! Lights dim when making a weld.

That's very nice setup there. Your probably going to want to put some cooling on that transformer though. They can heat up real quick which will become a real pain when trying to weld. Love to see some welds when you get it done.

A bit OT but didn't want to make a new thread.
If I connect the secondary of a non-modified MOT to the 120V AC (Mains), wouldn't the primary end practically become a low voltage/high current welder?

I don't think you could put enough power into the thin secondary to get an output sufficient. Also even the primary is too thin of wire to carry a significant current or else you could just use the heating secondary which outputs something like 3volts.
