................Need a pair for a 125 KV X-Ray transformer I'm working on. Looking for something on the larger side. The "below the cover"
dimension should be 8-15". Brown preferred, newer ones ok, too. Decided not to try to adapt something to fit in the Federal type sockets.

Hey again, Bob:

I've got some bushings, but they don't *quite* fit the bill; they're gray and a little short (7" max below the cover). I can get more pretty easily, but getting two identical ones will be a trick since my source, Seattle City Light, uses single-eared pole pigs almost exclusively. OTOH, they'll tear the ears off the dead ones for me on a moment's notice, so I can keep trying and maybe I'll get lucky! Last time I was down, they also had a triplet of oil-filled substation transformer bushings they wanted to foist on me. I declined. They weighed about 1000 lbs each! Might still have 'em though... I charge a $10 finder's fee cheesey

Bushings

Also pictured is a male/female Federal pair. Not sure of the rating. I got it for free as part of a large lot of junk. The male has the remains of a nasty solder job on it, but you're welcome to them if you like.

Solder

If the bushings interest you, I'll poke around a bit more and see if I can find the mounting hardware. It's in my junk pile somewhere ... confused

Regards,
Aaron, N7OE

do you have any small bushings that can be used for a topload standoff? Also do you have any fairly small bushings around 4" above the cover? I need them for a quad mot bank that i am going to dress up all nice and pretty smile.

Hey TCG:

I don't have any smaller pole pig bushings, no. They're probably not what you want in either case, because of how much of them is below the cover. For a topload standoff, about the best I could offer would be some 3kV ceramic-body distribution surge arresters, and you'd have to grind off the metal end caps and gut them. They're about the size of soda cans and I've got a few dozen.

But since you're talking "nice and pretty": If you have a few $$ to spend, a good place for that kind of stuff is Surplus Sales of Nebraska. Their prices are out-of-whack at times, but it's hard to beat their selection of weird stuff. The antenna feedthrough aisle has some options for you:

Personally (because I'm a sucker for antiques), I like the glass ones near the bottom on the left for MOT bank bushings (SC595A). I don't know why, they just seem "neat". 402B and 9548, near the top, would look nice on top of a Tesla coil, although a number of the others would work ok too.

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

Hi Aaron,
A pair of the insulator pictured on top would do the job. I wanted a longer tail so I could use less oil. Unfortunately, the female Federal sockets are welded to the top. When I look down at them, I see what looks like a big hex nut that secures the blue plastic insulator. I hope this will unscrew.

Would be nice to find a pig cover with bushings that fit the can this transformer came in.

Sparky99
