I was speaking with a friend in Germany i didnot speak for some time.

He has bought a SSTC from this guy Link2

Later he trade it off for some other thingies.

He says me they tortured this coil for all nights half of year without turn off and coil worked, worked, worked...

Does anybody have idea which circuit is he using or what topology? I'm reading his claim "that circuit that he use nobody discovered until now and there is no IC-s, except in the "interrupter" which he calls BPS control.

I see 2 ic sockets on his board, and possible some voltage regulators. Looks like a DRSSTC with a full bridge drive to me. I doubt there is anything special about that design, just a standard DRSSTC circuit maybe with secondary or primary current feedback.

Its not even a drsstc as far as I can tell. It only runs at 5bps max but still requires an ac fan. There are also some little ics or something next to each igbt.

Im sure 100 % its not a DRSSTC. And im still amazed at those little heatsinks. Black box on right side is fan ?

Here is layout

Edit: I was digging on his site and found this more images, clearer and worse. Also i found some scope waveforms but nothing useful

Clearances from the DC bus wiring to ground look worryingly small! Not good dead

the whole design looks very crapy so I'm also surprised what he can do with it. One of the bugs must be gate drive and the small (8pins) is most likely 555 timer. The main question is the one remaining bug. It could be PLL since it has antena feedback, you can see antena in one of the pictures on his web page (the older models).

BTW: here is a video of that coil in action Link2

The smallest chip I could see looks more like a 6pin chip more then an 8pin chip.

Yes indeed it is a 6 pin chip.

Has no one noticed the black wire going through the GDT? I believe he is using the primary current to drive the IGBT gates through a CT. The 2 film caps on the left are the resonant cap.

The 6-pin chip is likely an opto-coupler for a TRIAC (or perhaps some other device) to gate his power source on and off.
