I would personally recommend searching locally. You can certainly get one over the internet but a deal including shipping will likely be hard to come by - especially with such specific requirements. Unless someone on here has a cheap local source and would be willing to ship one . . .

5kVA units are actually pretty hard to find! 10kVA is ultra common. And in fact, if you check out docs from Cooper and other pole transformer manufacturers, you'll see that they often use the exact same size can for 5kVA and 10kVA. The only thing you'd save on is weight. Case in point: Link2

Definitely try and talk to the salvage folks at your local utilities if you haven't already. It's worked for me. Another option would be to mail D.C. Cox (a.k.a. "Dr. Resonance" on the TCML). He always has a stockpile of 14.4kV 10kVA units priced to sell, and ships from Wisconsin (somewhere). Or if you go to Cheesehead (I've always wanted to but never have), then you can pick one up from him there. Here's a pic of D.C.'s pig pen at Cheesehead: Link2 People cart them off for < $150, I think!

EDIT: Hmmm... The Cooper doc above also says that the *weight* of the 5- and 10kVA units is the same mistrust Although maybe that's actually correct; maybe they wind the 5kVA units with #40 wire and avoid a meltdown by putting 2x the oil in wink Nahh... I'm voting for typo!

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

Indeed, but they want $900 for one. suprised I sure hope they're brand new! Otherwise, that price just doesn't make any sense.

Find me a 3"X12" Spun aluminum toroid anywhere in the world.
Then find it cheaper than Amazing1 has it for.

Yeah, it's not a John Freau, but it works.

Not all their stuff is overpriced.
