New Franceformers for 12-15's@ 30ma cost about 100USD depending upon their design but weigh about 25lbs. Perhaps it's the 60ma that makes it so expensive.....?

Realistically you can get a New commercial Canadian made NST from Information Unlimited (amazing1.com) from anywhere from $79-139.

Do to the high cost of shipping (& it will get higher due to gas prices) if you live near me; give me a PM as I have a great many sources for NST's & other HV stuff. It's not the costs but the shipping.

I've bought some things from some guys here on this Board and been VERY happy with both the product & their ethics.

If i can get a 10kva 14,800v pole pig for $300 vs a 15/60nst that is only 890va then do the math. You are better off with the pole pig.

I got a 12kv 60ma nst for 70 bucks in all. You should buy one of those before a $350 nst that is only 3kv more. And i can assure you, these nst that are 12kv and 60ma are worth it if purchased from the neon girls. I have had a good amount of success with mine.

Brand new 15/60's can be had from numerous places for $100 or more less than this guy's eBay auction. Although I'm generally loath to recommend Information Unlimited, they're an example of this (they sell new Allanson 15/60's for $169). I don't know if I'd call that a good deal, but it's a much better deal wink (I've always gotten my NSTs for free, either by begging, or because I know a few folks who work in the neon sign business).

The cost of NSTs seems to get out of control pretty fast as the current climbs. In most cases, I expect it'll be cheaper to get a bunch of lower-current ones and parallel them.

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

haha oh no way, I was just browsing when this auction caught my eye and I started to laugh. I mean I sold my exact xformer for 91. So at first I checked to make sure it wasnt my xformer that I sold (basically same packaging as mine). Since I sold mine for a lot less then what I paid for it and a lot lot less then what this guy is selling it for.

Indeed. IU used to sell 15/120 NSTs, and I think the price was still < $300. $280 for a 15/60 is just plain dumb. Then again, IMO, buying new transformers for your HV projects is usually pretty dumb. There are just so many ways to get cheap used transformers of all kinds. The only real case to be made for a new tranny is that you need it to look real spiffy. And if it looks real spiffy, you'll just be sadder when you toast it by not building a Terry Filter wink

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE
