You may have noticed a number of recent threads in the forum having to do with Tesla coil capacitors. You would do well to read those, as well as do some Googling. A good Tesla coil capacitor is usually not something you just run into, but something you have to seek out and (usually) pay Real Money for. I wouldn't hold out much hope of finding usable (for a Tesla coil) capacitors in a TV. As for the general question about building a Tesla coil with TV parts: The flyback transformer can be used as a Tesla coil power supply, but it will involve a great deal more complexity than, say, a neon sign transformer or oil burner ignition transformer. You will need to spend some time building a driver circuit for your flyback. For this reason, some people consider flybacks an end unto themselves. You'll find lots of topics on flyback driving in the High Voltage forum. Check the HvWiki too.

...well, sure But I think the point of that particular project was to use junk more than it was to build a Tesla coil. Be sure to see his comments about how the TV capacitors were blowing up left and right. Hard to really claim victory (on the TC front, anyway) with that kind of MTBF!
