Quick question about SSTC shielding

Hi all,

My SSTC has been sitting on my workbench open to the air for a week now, and I finally have time to make it look presentable. I have some questions about how to wire the shielding tho; specifically how to ground it.

There are 3 parts specifically:
-The wire mesh cage around the base
-The shield in the interrupter cable
-The logic circuits' ground

Can I just connect these all together and connect to secondary base ground? Something in that doesn't sound right to me though...

I bring this up because the position of the interrupter cord, which as of now is 2 conductor unshielded (from a wall wart), wildly affects the coil's output. The output gets much better if I curl up the cord and wrap Al foil around it.

I would like to just switch to a coaxial cable, with the center being the signal and the sheath being connected to logic ground. However, i don't think that would change anything because the ground wire (sheath) is still exposed to the coil. If it is safe to connect the logic ground/sheath to the secondary base ground that would be great; otherwise ill have to use a USB cable, have 2 of the conductors be GND and SIG, and connect the isolated sheath to the secondary base.

So what should I do here?

Also I realize this is no longer a "quick question" but i'd appreciate any help.

You should be fine to connect all of the ground to a single point, and use a coaxial cable for the interrupter.

The idea behind the ground is that it is the same everywhere, so we size the connections so that despite the fact that there are possibly large amounts of current flowing, the entire coils ground will be the same thing. If you have trouble with this arrangement, then you would be better off finding why there is voltage being induced across you ground and fix it, rather than create several grounding systems.

Thanks a lot, I will try tying all the grounds together. I was just a little hesitant to have my logic circuits electrically connected to a live secondary.
