Hello Ken,

I saw and was confused by that "STN/TFT" thing and so I emailed the vendor, to ask how they could have it both ways. They wrote back and said that the 25 mhz scope has a "super twisted nematic" display, not a TFT, but that all the higher models do have a TFT display. (BTW the owners manual you linked to states that the 25 mhz scope has the STN display).

Regards,
jpsmith123

I should add that another reason I didn't subsequently consider buying the 60 mhz scope from Owon was because I thought their representation of the specs that way was deceptive.

Just in case anyone's interested, I was corresponding with someone who bought and then returned an Owon oscilloscope. Here's what he said:

"I would recommend that you stay away from Owon scopes. I bought a PDS6062T, the 60 Mhz model, and I sent it back the next day.

It looked pretty good in the picture, but when I got it in front of me, it was a big disappointment.

The first issue, believe it or not, was trying to remove the plastic film the manufacturer put over the LCD. They cut it exactly flush with the edges of the LCD screen, and, being that the LCD is slightly recessed, how do you get the film off without risking scratching the screen? I ultimately used tape to pull it off but it was not easy...it was a big, unnecessary hassle. I thought, what kind of company would do something so thoughtless as that?

Anyway, the plastic body of the oscilloscope was flimsy and blemished in a few spots; the handle and the two front legs were flimsy; and there was a noticeable gap between one of the knobs and the front panel. Also, some of the push-buttons had a "mushy" feel while others did not, and, usually, when a button was pushed, the other buttons around it also moved noticeably. Lastly, even the silkscreening of the front panel was not well done.

As far as functionality goes, the scope does not have a real-time FFT function, the input coupling menu does not have a "ground" option (a feature that may not be all that important, but I've never seen a scope without it), and, when I looked at the built-in 1 khz calibration signal, it was not stable; it looked "jittery", like the trigger was noisy or something. (I looked at the 1 khz signal with another scope and it was ok).

I wasn't expecting an Agilent or a Tektronix scope, but for $600+ neither was I expecting something looking like it came from the toy department at Wal-Mart.

Since for a little more money you can get a GW Instek 60 Mhz scope, that has none of these issues, I have to deem the "Owon" scope as *junk*."
