It is steve wards circuit and i have made it before and it worked flawlessly but now it is messing up. First off when i turn the hv on the filament glows brighter which worries me. Then it gets red hot REALLY fast, and glowed so brightly i actually had to look away as i unplugged it. I had to take the tank cap out to see if i was ruin and see if the circuit was oscillating so i guess that may mean i just need a tank cap and it will not be so hot. And i cannot run this thing in the house anymore because it turned my burglar alarm on and made my mom wake up worried as i have ever seen her and it turned my t.v. off, and it has never done that before. So i guess my questions are simply why would it get so hot and why the filament glows like that.

Do you have the correct voltage on the filament? Is it drawing the correct amount of current?
If you run the filament hotter it will change the characteristics of the tube, so if you get the filament running at the correct temperature your other problems might solve themselves.
