I am very impressed with this golf ball launcher, it may be more effective than it appears. It would seem logical to assume that the disc and ball launch together at the same speed and the difference in their flight is down to aerodynamics. However I think there are other effects to consider.
When the launcher fires the disc will accelerate very rapidly and the ball will compress elastically storing some energy, when the disc`s acceleration is over the ball will recover its original shape and release the stored energy causing the ball to accelerate and the disc to slow down. At about this time the disc will experience a slight deceleration due to magnetic braking, the ball will not be affected by this.
Remember that a golf ball is designed to be as elastic as possible so you can hit it a long way. Also the dimples on the golfball reduce drag so much that on a long drive a dimpled ball will go twice as far as a smooth ball.
