I'm looking for some enameled wire for making a small SSTC or SGTC. I wouldnt need much, i only really want to accomplish something like 10cm streamers to air, and be something i could put on my desk or as a science project (no more than say 40cm tall? Anyone in Australia got any enameled wire for a reasonable price?

Hi, If your only winding a smallish secondary then get hold of an old junk monitor, or most TV's , open it up and pull out the degaussing coil (big loop of taped up wire sitting around the tube). Wind off all the electrical tape that they wrap it up in (boooring job) , and whallah you have a nice enamel free coil of beautifull 22gauge(ish) wire! Should be plenty for a small SSTC , I've wound a few myself with this wire. Free is always best :)

If you really want to go insanely small (and this is PITA work), you can unwind 12V computer fan motors and pull out the 3000' of 40 AWG (.8 mm) wire and use it to wind an a small TC. While that may seem like a ton of wire, it will only make about 4" of winding on a 1" diameter former. I've found that if you are patient, 40 gauge is just between being impossible to break and easy to break. You must take your time unwinding, and then winding so as not to snap the wire, though it will stand up to some abuse.
