I recently bought these capacitors:

I now notice that a dc resonant charging system may be to much for them considering i have two mots, with a doubler, that is 8kv and apparently the chokes boost that to 16kv and these are rated for 15kv. Will that be a problem? I saw a picture on another listing he had running a coil on one of these capacitors. Do you think just two will do fine?(provided they are paralleled for 40nf)

I looked at those before, and I considered buying them.
Terry Fritz once wrote a paper on pushing caps to their limits.

I guess the best that you could do is try them out, they would probably last .

Thanks! You seem to know everything i need to know. I have 30 bucks now and am getting 12 bucks tommorow, so you have any ideas what(tesla related) about what i can spend it on? I need some cheap wire for a new secondary and i would like some backup caps. Do you have any idea were to get a suitable voltage 40nf capacitor or capacitors for a mmc?

For the wire, try parawire.com. Just ask for heavy build insulation on your magnet wire. Also, you can get it in whatever color you want. Imagine, you could be the first ever person to build a blue, yellow, or even pink tesla coil! amazed

Parawire is really expensive, however I like the idea of specific colors of magnet wire, I'll see if I can get a big reel of green or blue 22 to 24 gauge.
I'm out of 24 and 22 gauge altogether, so we'll see what they have.

There is a merchant on ebay express that sells big 5000 foot spools of magnet wire for cheap and even has flat rate shipping.

Lots of gauges.
This guy is good too, for more than just magnet wire, he sells magnets too.

Don't just buy from the first people you see.

Well i think i just did a no-no. I bid on wire that has a broken spool! I am in some deep ! I may lose the bid but if i do it will still suck. I need 1000 feet of 22 gauge for a total of 900 turns. That should be good. A little of subject but would a static spark gap work well with mot resonant charging? I built a propeller gap and i forgot to use freakin' plastic as the hub. Mine is metal! I sparks for about half a second and then it stops for half a second. I built another but it kinda sucks and is made out of wood. That would be a bad thing to use! If one of the electrodes hit i would be covered with splinters. Looks like i need a plastic hub propeller gap because that is the only thing i am good at making, yet i still made a fatal flaw!

And another question. I am making a voltage doubler with two mots. Should i use two moc's in series for 4kv at .5uf or a series parallel arrangement for 4kv at 1uf.

Wire! Such a basic thing, such a wide variety of prices and qualities...

I like these guys: Applied Magnets
