Hello all,
I used to post on this forum alot as I went about my many projects. Classes began to get in the way as well as uranium sales on ebay.
Ive missed tesla coiling! I plan to build a new DRSSTC, but feel I have been gone so long that things may have changed. If this is an appropriate thread, I would like to offer up a discussion on whats new? I know I could read though the numerous threads, but I am really just after highlights. Such as, what is the new transistor out that everyone is raving over?I remember the old 40n60's...My coil is planned to be a small one. Any new advances in silicon I should research? What about all this musical stuff?
Im basically coming out of a long coma! If this is not an appropriate request, I appologize and would appreciate a PM and a chance to remove this topic.
Note: I do not intend for this to be a research thread, but a kinda "go look up yada yada, its neat and easy!". ect.
Thank you much!
Matt

Hi Matt, welcome back!
Actually I can't help you at all with your request, because I have been away from the forum myself for nearly a year and just returned a couple of weeks ago. But I am sure someone else will help you.

What is this uranium sales thing you mentioned, did you go to jail or something for illegal arms trade?

Well, based on what has been going on in this foum Dan's (Dr. Shock) DRSSTCs have become insanley popular, and I think there are several clones of his design floating arround the forum. He also released his own audio modulated interupter board which seems to have a bit of potential.

Christopher (Dr. Spark) has been building some pretty insane DRSSTCs, even a bipolar one, and a few good 'ole pll audio modulated coils.

As to advances in the hobby, we are still using 40n60's and cm600's, really the only place I have seen things change much in the last year is that now every drsstc has a interupter that is somehow audio modulated (MIDI, PWM, something)

There has also been a little work done in making coils work in class E (or at least quasi class E), and some very nice results have been had using just a single switch.

Glad to see you are back!

I see youtube is the new place to "pimp" our coils! Very interested in making a musical DRSSTC now! I will have to scan through the forum and look up some schematics, source some parts, and get some boards made via expresspcb! Right after finals that is!

As to the uranium: No legal trouble, just selling off some neato uranium ore I have accumulated. Some REAL high grade stuff! May make for some neat experiments...Im talking 60-80mR/hr of pure gamma rocks! (shield closed).
I will try to keep the uranium out of the tesla coils! wink

Matt
