Not very much of a project, but i spent all of a day and a half working on it, so I think it is deserving of at least a little recognition...
For my birthday my dad got me a +/- 1.5g accelerometer eval board (the chip on a board with .1" headers and a filter cap) and a request that I hook it up to a computer so it could be used to monitor driving habits...

My first try was to use a freebie dataq 194 4 Chanel a/d board, but it was meant as a way to suck you in to buy their software so it only recorded 1 channel (I wanted 2). So I found an activex plug in and tried to compile the vb and excel examples but the difference in version (going from the 2k vb interface to the new style one was just to much for my first program), so I ditched that idea.

Then I tried to use a pic12f625 to do it (dual 12bit a/d and internal clock in an 8 pin dip package!) using mikrobasic to compile some code to read the value of the a/d and then send it out a software uart. This should have taken about 20 lines of code, but I just couldn't get it to work. The a/d was piece of cake, but the uart was sending at the wrong speed (even using a crystal oscillator), so I scrapped that idea.

So having been defeated I decided to drop back to my old standby-the basic stamp 2. I found a max1210 a/d laying in the junk box, and 10 minutes later I had a proof of concept... An hour of messing with the code to get it to display properly in excel (using stampdaq) and getting the scaling correct for the accelerometer and it was done :)

One of these days I may get arround to making it work with the 12f675 and/or add a 24lc512 so I don't have to lug my laptop arround, but for now it works just great tongue
